Welcome to this month’s SPM newsletter!

Thanks for taking a moment to catch up with what has been happening with our project partners in Myanmar, and how your support is making a real difference on the ground. Your partnership is at the heart of every step forward, and we’re grateful to have you alongside us in this work.

Last month Marian, (far left) who has recently joined our SPM Board, and I were able to visit Earth Mission’s office in Chiang Mai and their centre in Mae Sariang. It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up and learn from EM staff (including Dr Nant Thet, in the middle). Marian did some training with the Year 2 PA’s who had come across to Mae Sariang.

The sessions covered how to deal with stress and anxiety, and build team resilience. It was a very special time spent with these dedicated students.

OUR PROJECTS

Project - Health for the Hidden (Karen State)

Our partner Earth Mission have had another busy month treating people from the surrounding communities. The new intake of PA’s have finished bootcamp and are ready to begin their first year of study. They will move to Mae Sariang Thailand, to do this over the rainy season. The Engineering team have done an incredible job of constructing several buildings and installing a hydro electric system.

A new video has been created by Matt Blauer about the work of Earth Mission on the front line. You can see it here, but it comes with a warning that it shows some graphic images and sounds. This is the reality of what is happening, despite some ‘smoke and mirror’ announcements coming from the new government.

Project - Community Care (Yangon)

Summer school continues for the children living in the urban informal community. They are having lessons in English. Math and Myanmar. Sewing classes continue for 5 students, and the free clinic saw 85 patients in March. Over the dry season our partner provides access to drinking water (they have an underground bore with filter) to members of the community.

OTHER NEWS

Mon and Eh Hsu - Mon is consulting daily on midwifery and obstetric cases. One case Mon consulted on recently resulted in the miraculous safe delivery of twins! We will post a blog about that soon, so look out for it! Mon and Eh Hsu are also putting plans in place to return to RTC soon. Please keep them in your prayers.

Update on Naw Gay - While in Chiang Mai, Marian and I had the privilege of visiting Naw Gay. As others have said, she is an inspiring young lady. She is so grateful for life, and for being given the chance to improve her quality of life, by so many from around the world. Joy and hope radiate from her! A few days prior to our visit she had had minor surgery on one of the fingers of her right hand to improve its function. She asked us to pass on her thanks to all of you who are praying for her.
